
On the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, a program was organized by the Sinhgad Institute of Business Management, to commemorate the victorious day and remember the brave soldiers who brought the victory to the nation at the cost of their lives. The Chief Guest of the event was Wing Commander Pradeep Deshpande, a veteran fighter pilot, and ex-IAF officer. He has served the Indian air force for 22 years he has flown a dozen different types of aircraft. In 2004 he resigned from the Indian air force and joined Air India as a commercial pilot. He has to his credit more than 10,000 hours of flying spanning over 35 years. He is also been volunteering in teaching India and now he is a part of the central management team at Vidya NGO for the development of youths and adults. Having a love for music he is a part of a musical group in Powai too.
He shared with the audience, the Leadership Lessons he learned during the tenure of his service by narrating his life experiences. He started the session by narrating his experience during the Kargil combat and the role of the Indian Air force. It was very interesting to hear the incidents that he shared, which had so many leadership lessons. He spoke about the role of Innovation, Trust, Courage, and Commitment in being an efficient leader. He also spoke of the concept of Fellowship before Leadership, which says that it is important to become a good follower for becoming a good leader. The audience also got to know how to make decisions in a panic or crisis.
Speaking with Planet Powai Dr. Sreelatha Guntupalli (Director of SIBM) said that it was delightful listening to the experiences of WG Cdr Pradeep Deshpande who understands leadership by way of the experiences that he shared. Students of BCom, BMS, and MMS participated & interacted with the chief guest. The Director of SIBM, Dr. Sreelatha Guntupalli, Principal of Commerce college Ms. Ritika Hemdev, and Blue Parijat NGO founder Ms. Manvi Singh were present for the event.
